Meghalaya CM Praises Baa Baa Black Sheep’s All-Meghalaya Shoot

CM Conrad K. Sangma praised the film’s Meghalaya shoot and said productions can create opportunities for local communities. Makers announced an October 9 theatrical release.

Meghalaya has taken centre stage in the launch story for Telugu film Baa Baa Black Sheep. In a video shared by Chitralayam Studios’ official YouTube channel, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma congratulated the filmmakers for choosing the state as their location and said cinema can introduce Meghalaya’s landscapes to audiences beyond the region.

Sangma also made a broader case for production in the state: film crews can create opportunities for local communities, give young people a chance to show their skills and build experience. He invited more filmmakers to consider Meghalaya. The message turns a film-promotion moment into a pitch for the state as a screen destination—without any figures yet available on the jobs or spending generated by this particular production.

What is confirmed about the film

The makers and Sangma describe Baa Baa Black Sheep as the first South Indian film shot entirely in Meghalaya. That distinction is their stated claim; we have not found an independently verified industry-wide record establishing it. The production is led by producer Venu Donepudi under Chitralayam Studios, with Guni Manchikanti directing. The ensemble includes Upendra Limaye, Tinnu Anand, Akshay Lagusani and Raja Ravindra.

The official trailer from Chitralayam Studios advertised a worldwide theatrical release for October 9, 2026. This report relies on the announced date and does not make a box-office or audience-response claim.

A location-led Telugu production

Meghalaya’s hills, waterfalls and living-root bridges are more than scenery in the film’s promotion: the location is central to the project’s identity. Whether this visibility leads to sustained production work for local crews remains to be seen, but Sangma’s message makes that hoped-for benefit explicit.
